RETURN OF THE DRAGON!!!!! MICHAEL JACKSON PREPARES FOR HIS RETURN

Michael Jackson is featured on the October 2007 cover of L’Uomo Vogue, photographed by Bruce Weber. Supposedly Mike worked out a deal with designer, Roberto Cavalli, to do the photo shoot. He posed for the shoot only if Cavalli would create some special clothes and give him a new look for his new album due to be released late this year or early 2008.

We all want to see MJ. And not in a courtroom.

Open Letter to Michael Jackson:
Mike!!! DO MIKE!!!!PLEASE??? Hopefully you got back with Q, Rod & Bruce and you're not trying to get a hot 16 from Lil Weezy. Your Brother In Law is gonna send you off! Don't go to ATL. Don't make a joint with Young Jeezy or any body else under 25. You will look silly.

Rihanna maybe. Janet only if Jermaine DuPree is outta town. Kanye might give you something interesting. But don't let him rhyme on it. It will turn into comedy. Kanye is a talented producer. And his new album is good. He tries too hard and just struggles with being relevent. Oh I got it! Get with Pharrell Williams. He gets it. And he loves you. His stuff is interesting. And he's is still relevent. He like no other African-American Artist has managed to transcend the ranks of celebrity the way white artist do. But he's been low-key and that's a good thing cause he was about to play himself.

Get with Lenny Kravitz. Do a Rock Joint and Let Rihanna jump on it. Like how she did on the MTV Video Awards with Fall Out Boy. Now that would be crazy!!! and you and Lenny have never done anything together. Why is that? Lenny is GREAT!

Speaking Of MTV Video Awards, I know you bugged out when you saw Chris Brown. He's the new you. I mean everybody is doing you. But Chris is nice! He is a good looking kid and dances his ass off. He dances way better that you. But his songs don't hold up like yours. So he got a ways to go. And the rest of them are just having fun. You really left an indelible mark on all of us.

I mean really and truthfully. We love all the stuff you did with your brothers Mike. And Q and you made history. (Not the album. REAL HISTORY). Your music is eternal. If you never did another record again we would still love you. You raised the bar so high that it may never be reached. That is how amazing you really are. So please Mike. be careful. Really think about what you are about to do. Because if you don't really think about what you are doing, coming back could prove to be disastrous.

See Brittney Spears. They (Whomever they are) want to see you fall flat on your face. Wipe out totally. And try to erase history completely......They've done it before......

Take care Michael

ARK de TRIUMPH!!!! New Album From BUILD AN ARK

Here's how Dusty Groove describes DAWN:

"An amazing album from Build An Ark -- even more spiritual and far-reaching than their first -- and still with a vibe that rivals some of the most righteous jazz ever issued in the 70s on labels like Impulse and Strata East! The ensemble features both older and younger players -- coming together in a collective exploration of some of the hipper sides of the jazz spectrum -- all in a mode that recalls early genius of Pharoah Sanders, Alice Coltrane, and others from many years back -- recorded in a style that's completely sensitive to the nuances of the music. Carlos Nino produced, and also contributed some of the tunes -- and group members include Dwight Trible on vocals, Nate Morgan on piano, Adam Rudolph on kalimba, and Derf Reklaw on congas -- but that's only the tip of the iceberg, given the size of the group. Titles include "Sunshine", "Healing Song", "Love Sweet Like Sugar Cane", "Dawn", "River Run", "When Ancestors Speak", "Morning Glory", "In Her Smile", and "You Yourself Are The Key To The Universe". Art Imitates Life: Films That Matter.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Killer of Sheep examines the black Los Angeles ghetto of Watts in the mid-1970s through the eyes of Stan, a sensitive dreamer who is growing detached and numb from the psychic toll of working at a slaughterhouse.

Frustrated by money problems, he finds respite in moments of simple beauty: the warmth of a coffee cup against his cheek, slow dancing with his wife in the living room, holding his daughter. The film offers no solutions; it merely presents life — sometimes hauntingly bleak, sometimes filled with transcendent joy and gentle humor.

Killer of Sheep was shot on location in Watts in a series of weekends on a budget of less than $10,000, most of which was grant money. Finished in 1977 and shown sporadically, its reputation grew and grew until it won a prize at the 1981 Berlin International Film Festival.

Since then, the Library of Congress has declared it a national treasure as one of the first fifty on the National Film Registry and the National Society of Film Critics selected it as one of the "100 Essential Films" of all time. However, due to the expense of the music rights, the film was never shown theatrically or made available on video. It has only been seen on poor quality 16mm prints at few and far between museum and festival showings.

Now, thirty years after its debut, the new 35mm print of Killer of Sheep, brilliantly restored by UCLA Film & Television Archive, is ready for its long-awaited international release

YOU CAN RING MY BELL!

Like a supernova 7 For All Mankind came and went faster than you can say True Religion. You could not find a girl in the states that did not have a pair of 7's. And at first it was cute. And not to mention good for their business. But 7's were everywhere. Even Marshall's(I know because I shop there. The one on Michigan Ave in Chgo had Prada Shoes so....) Anyway, it was beyond commercial. It was sad......

It was harder, faster, stronger but not longer or should I say it was no longer.

Until now. 7's are back! The new must have jean for the girls that get it, are getting open on the 7 For All Mankind IVY IN YOSEMITE ORGANIC DENIM.

These wide legged, bell bottom panses are sooo sexy. And with the right shoe, it's over!!!

I see a chunky wedge or a nice Louboutin platform.

IVY IN YOSEMITE ORGANIC DENIM

They Ivy Pant is a one-of-a-kind combination. Lattice work mini-pockets on the front, extra large belt loops, and a sewn pleat down the front and back of each leg make the Ivy Pant cute and unique.

YOU CANNOT ARGUE WITH THESE!!! Get yours now cause if the guys from 7 have it their way, the are gonna be everywhere by summer 2008

HOT COLABOS

Yeah, yeah that joint Kanye got with T-Pain is hot. And Lil Wayne is giving everybody a hot 16. But the hottest colabo that has the fashion industry and every fashionista drooling is the Yoji/Adidas Colab!
Y-3 is no joke.
From the ground up this line is history of the future.
Yoji is a F****** genius. That's a given. Adidas is relevent again. But no one antisapated this. Go to the website. It's right!

Y-3
The Label
Not a lot of athletic-apparel companies would let an avant-garde Japanese designer get in the way of their drive toward the bottom-line mainstream, but the collaboration between Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas has proved itself critically and commercially and inspired similar matchups (Adidas also has a line with Stella McCartney, and Alexander McQueen has done pieces for Puma). From its first collection, spring 2003, Y-3 was meant to be a real business for both sides, not a vanity project. Adidas shows it on the runway every season (at first in Paris but more recently in New York). A voluminous skirt or a distressed gray-jacket might seem an odd thing to find on the sales floor at a store attached to a sports brand, but Y-3 is doing well enough that accessories have been added and freestanding stores are starting to appear around the world (although none in New York, as of fall 2006).

The Look
Yamamoto, ever a fan of convenience (his clothes always have generous pockets, a rarity in the not always practical fashion world) and new fabric technology, takes the basics of athleticwear, like tank tops, warm-up jackets, and sweatpants, and amplifies them with new proportions and colors.

The Designer
Yamamoto was born in Tokyo in 1943 and studied law before attending the prestigious Bunka Fukuso Gakuin design school. He presented his first womenswear collection in 1972 in Paris under the name Y’s, and he brought out a higher-priced signature label nine years later. He has several fragrances as part of his deal with Procter & Gamble, and his 2003 partnership with Adidas created the Y-3 label, one of the first and most successful of the designer-activewear marriages. In summer 2006, he signed a deal to design luggage and accessories for Italian luggage specialist Mandarina Duck, and his chief executive Keizo Tamoto wants to expand Yamamoto’s +Noir sportswear line and accessories.

In addition to the admiration of his peers (Donna Karan wears Yamamoto), he’s has acquired numerous awards. He’s the only Japanese designer to receive France’s Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres. Not only does Yamamoto dress a large chunk of the international arts community, he’s also collaborated on film projects with Wim Wenders, Takeshi Kitano, and Ryuichi Sakamoto, and done costumes for the Pina Bausch Company and the Wagner Opera.

K.I.M. (Keeping It Moving): Modes Of Transportation And Other Evidence That the Future Is Now

The MadAss is a sturdy light motorbike in
modern design. Or a scooter. Looks cool and it probabally is not that fast. But it should be suitable for city romps and an alternative to public transportation and forget drivinh an SUV. Gas is too expensive...

Motorcycle News had this review: The aircooled, 4-valve single-cylinder four-stroke is old and slightly agricultural and won’t set anybody’s pants on fire. However, to its credit it’s simple, straightforward, fairly durable and, for the most part, idiot proof. Which, come to think of it, is probably what and engine in a machine like this needs to be. Just a shame it’s so slow…

Michael Tomberlin, CEO, stated “We are extremely pleased in the market acceptance of our vehicles. Our biggest challenge right now is meeting the demand. We will not rush this product or flood the market with product or dealers. We are monitoring retail closely and all indicators are exceeding our expectations. With roll on roll off dealer delivery it appears we have a remarkable opportunity to further grow our organization as well as the dealers we serve. Enthusiasm is certainly at an all time high”

Warhol Factory X Levi's Damien Hirst Colabo

Pop Art Meets Denim

By REBECCA THOMAS
September 10, 2007

A collaboration between Levi Strauss & Co. and British artist Damien Hirst brought members of the fashion, art, design, and Hollywood elite to Chelsea's Gagosian Gallery on Saturday night. The result was a splashy collection for the Warhol Factory X Levi's line that sampled heavily from neon attire of the 1980s, and the work of the iconic Pop artist, Andy Warhol.

Among the highlights were wildly colorful, paint-splattered jackets and stovepipe jeans paired with Ray-Ban sunglasses and white T-shirts featuring Levi's instantly recognizable 501 logo. Evoking an era when the punk underground and art school dropouts ruled New York's downtown, one model strolled the runway with an oversize palette in hand.

Mr. Hirst, whose diamond-encrusted human skull recently sold for a record-setting $100 million, brought some of the same wicked sensibility to the denim brand's spring 2008 collection. A number of skin-tight, unisex jeans in black and gray were studded with hardware — some in the shape of skulls. And sheer black tops for men, and Lurex and patent leather miniskirts for women marked a naughty turn for the wholesome American jeans company.

Levi's designer Adrian Nyman and his team created some patterns by mashing works by Mr. Hirst and Warhol, a privilege afforded by a 2006 licensing agreement between the Warhol Foundation and the Levi's company that gives the jeans-maker access to Warhol's works.

IT GIRL: JOURDAN DUNN.The World's Next Super Model

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES!

Wow what a difference a day makes. Or actually a week. New York Fashion Week that is!

Jourdan Dunn has just returned from New York City back to her homeland of England a changed girl. You see until this fall this 17 year old had never left England. Now she is one of the hottest new up and coming models on the planet!

She booked Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg and L.A.M.B. By Gwen Stefani her first season! Not bad for a teenage girl whom has not been to prom or graduated from high school yet.

Dispite the fact that this is her first time on the ramp she's got the numbers.
Height
178 - 5' 10"
Bust
81 - 32"
Waist
58 - 23"
Hips
88 - 35"
Shoe Size
39 - 7.5
Hair color
black
Eye color
black

And other than fellow teenage model sensation Chanel Iman, She has potential to reach levels near that of her famous countrywoman and TOP MODEL NAOMI CAMPBELL. I think she is prettier than both and is more Tyra than Naomi. She also has a understated elegance that is rare from girls this young.

Jourdan was spotted by a scout from Storm - the agency which discovered Kate Moss - while shopping with a friend in a branch of High Street fashion chain Primark in Hammersmith, west London, last year. Sorm boss Sarah Doukas.
famously spotted a 14-year-old Kate Moss and Naomi was discovered in a simular manner.

'Stealth Racism' Stalks Deep South
By Tom Mangold, Louisiana(Reprinted From BBC.com
This World investigates the rise of discrimination in America's deep south as six black youths are charged with an alleged attack on a white student, which could see them jailed for up to 50 years.

Three rope nooses hanging from a tree in the courtyard of a school in a small Southern town in Louisiana have sparked fears of a new kind of "stealth" racism spreading through America's deep south.

Although this sinister episode happened last August, the repercussions have been extensive and today the town of Jena finds itself facing the unwelcome glare of national and international publicity.

Jena has a mixed community, 85% white, 12% black.

The bad old days of the "Mississippi Burning" 60s, civil liberties and race riots, lynchings, the KKK and police with billy clubs beating up blacks might have ended.

But in the year that the first serious black candidate for the White House, Barak Obama, is helping unite the races in the north, the developments in the tiny town of Jena are disturbing.

Nooses in the playground

It all began at Jena High School last summer when a black student, Kenneth Purvis, asked the school's principal whether he was permitted to sit under the shade of the school courtyard tree, a place traditionally reserved for white students only. He was told he could sit where he liked.

Tom Mangold interviewed primary witnesses in Jena
The following morning, when the students arrived at school, they found three nooses dangling from the tree.

Most whites in Jena dismissed it as a tasteless prank, but the minority black community identified the gesture as something far more vicious.

"It meant the KKK, it meant 'niggers we're going to kill you, we're gonna hang you 'til you die'," said Caseptla Bailey, one of the black community leaders.

Old racial fault lines in Jena began to fracture the town. It was made worse when - despite the school head recommending the noose-hangers be expelled - the board overruled him and the three white student perpetrators merely received a slap on the wrist.

Troubled community

Billy Doughty, the local barber, has never cut a black man's hair. But he does not think there is a racism problem in Jena.

Caseptla Bailey with a picture of her son Robert, one of the 'Jena Six'
Caseptla Bailey who is 56 and a former Air Force officer, has a degree in business management, but she cannot get a job as a bank teller. She lives in an area called Ward 10, which is where the majority of blacks live in trailers or wooden shacks. She says no whites live there at all.

"We want to live better, we want better housing." she says. "The Church says we should all be brothers and sisters in Christ".

Yet Sunday morning is perhaps one of the most segregated times in all of America. In the white neighbourhood, Pastor Dominick DiCarlo has only one black member of the Church, out of 450 resident members.

Race-related fights

As racial tension grew last autumn and winter, there were race-related fights between teenagers in town. On 4 December, racial tension boiled over once more at the school when a white student, Justin Barker, was attacked by a small group of black students.

He fell to the ground and hit his head on the concrete, suffering bruising and concussion.

He was treated at the local hospital and released, and that same evening felt able to put in an appearance at a school function.

District Attorney Reed Walters, to the astonishment of the black community, has upgraded the charges of Mr Barker's alleged attackers to conspiracy to commit second degree murder and attempted second degree murder. If convicted they could be 50 before they leave prison.

Mr Walters has refused to give an on-the-record interview to the BBC about his decision on the charges.

Mr Barker has since been charged with possessing a firearm in an arms-free zone (the school grounds).

The six black students will face a hearing next month. One of them is Caseptla Bailey's son Robert, who originally had his bail set at an unaffordable $138,000
She had to hire a private lawyer who managed to get Robert's bail reduced to $84,000 so that her family could meet it.

Michelle Jones' brother Carwyn is one of the boys charged. She is adamant that he will not get a fair trial in Jena.

"If he's tried here, the jury will pick who they want. I have no doubt that they will convict those boys of attempted second degree murder."

When they do eventually file into court, many observers believe it is the town of Jena which will really be on trial.

This World: "Race hate in Louisiana" will be broadcast on Thursday 24 May 2007 at 1900 BST on BBC Two.

ART OF THE MATTER: Artist That Matter Now: Delphine Diallo

Delphine Diallo was born in 1977, in Paris, to French and Senegalese parents. After graduating with distinction from the Académie Charpentier School of Visual Art in 1999, she worked as a designer and animator for a number of clients in the music industry, including Coldplay, the Smashing Pumpkins, and Manu Chao. In the last year she moved to New York City, where she works as a freelance graphic artist. She recently had her first show in Brooklyn. Editorial Statement In 2005, Delphine Diallo traveled to St. Louis, the capital of Senegal, in search of her family heritage. Born in Paris to Senegalese and French parents, Diallo undertook the Magic Photo Studio series as a way of exploring the cultural identity of her family and of pushing herself as an artist. The series is inspired in large part by the work of Malick Sidibé, who ran a studio in Bamako, Mali, during the 1960s, producing earnest, straightforward portraits in whimsically painted glass frames, for which he recently received the Venice Biennale Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. In her work,

Diallo compresses pattern and image into a single composition; patterns extracted from the textiles, totemic animals, and plants are brought directly into the image itself and layered on top of the portraits. These techniques are drawn from her background as a graphic designer and illustrator. The alchemical mix of painting, sketching, and notation on top of the images also connects the work to a contemporary vein of graphic-novel and graffiti-influenced drawing in the manner of Zak Smith or Margaret Kilgallen. The result is a richly textured and deeply personalized approach to portraiture.

We here @ TURP MAGAZINE are really feeling Diallo! Her P.O.V. is fresh in a retro kinda way. It appeals to our aesthtic and we look forward to more from this beautiful AFRICAN SISTEREN!

Check out more on Diallo on her website:
